Summer Fitness!
Summer is upon us! Many of us keep busy with jobs, summer projects, travel, classes, and much needed fun.
Summer is a great time to get back to fitness. You have a little extra time to focus on yourself, and not 30 children.
When I got back to working out, I wasn’t sure where to start. I wanted to increase my cardio, but also tone that bod of mine. After going on a few runs, and bike rides I...

I've hit a running wall.
tantalizingtidbits:
Week 4 of c25k is killing me. I can’t beat it! I am not really sure why. I wonder if I am not fueling myself right. So, here is my question? What are your favorite, healthy things to eat, at school and at home? I eat by myself and don’t really like leftovers, so things that I can cook in small sizes would be nice. Also, things that don’t take a long time. I am not a big...

Fitblr DietBet competition! →
Fellow fit teachers: a few fitblrs have decided to do a DietBet - how it works is you bet $10 and have 4 weeks to lose 4% of your body weight. Whoever loses at least that much splits the pot with the other winners, minus the 15% cut that DietBet gets.
If you’re looking for motivation for a spring slump, this could be it! Bet at your own risk. ;)

Nutshell: Thoughts on Gear →
my-life—in-a-nutshell:
As I get ready to start training again, I started thinking about how much I’ve learned over the past year since I embarked on this running journey. I know everyone has to figure out what they like to run in, but perhaps reading about what works for me, will help someone else starting out. So here…

Get On It October - Fit Teacher Challenge
Hello Fit Teachers!
Today is the last day of September, which means that your classes are starting to settle in, the novelty of a new teacher has worn off, and you’re busy guzzling coffee like it’s your job.
But if you’re anything like us, your fitness maybe hasn’t found its place in your routine yet. You may be struggling with trying to find time/energy to workout. Maybe...

I wanna join! Hey!
Here’s the deal:
I want to eat healthy this school year, and I don’t know where to start. I have been blessed with wonderful metabolism, and I eat whatever I want, whenever I want. Last year a typical day was yogurt for breakfast, something carb heavy for lunch, pizza/chinese/whatever take-out, and ice cream. Almost everything I put into my body was crap, and...

Hitting a Workout Wall
A lot of times when we start a new workout routine or start working out period, we are so excited. You love your runs, enjoyed that Zumba class, or you can’t wait to get back on the bike.
But then you hit a wall. Your runs are the same. Or they become boring. You get injured. Or, maybe you just can’t sit on a bike any longer. You have hit a fitness wall. I’ve been there....

I heard about this list on the radio this week. When I heard it, they described teachers as being #4 on the list.

How do you eat to run?
amiteachingyet:
I still haven’t gotten this down. I petered out in the middle of my 5k run this morning. Some of it was mental, but I didn’t eat really. Small glass of milk and a mini pancake. I really don’t like to eat first thing. I just want to get up and go. So, my dear fit teachers, how do you eat before a run?
How long do you wait until you run?
Signal boost!!
Anyone have advice?

Re: cramps while running
Is the side-stitch a cramp? When I get cramps, it’s usually because I’m not breathing consistently. When I get one I walk with my hands on my head until the piercing pain goes away, then make sure I’m breathing in a rhythm. I breathe in for two steps, then out for two steps. Also, if you’re drinking water while running, just take little sips. Hope that helps!
kristenegetsit asked: About the side stitches- For me, I can make them disappear if I focus on my breathing, and just take slower breaths. When I get them, I focus on inhaling normally, and exhaling as slow as possible (sometime I'll count to 10 or so).

Fit Teacher Question

Okay, this might seem crazy. But I’m told this is common, so I hope I don’t sound too insane. Do you ever get that painfully uncomfortable side cramp when you run? What does it mean? How do I get it to go away?!?
Oh, the dreaded Side Stitch.
In my own experience, I have gotten side stitch from being out of shape. They aren’t sure what exactly causes it, but there...

My goals:
Don’t go over weekly points in any week
Earn at least 15 activity points a week (ideally 20, but I’ll cut myself some slack in this department with all the craziness this month)

First off, figure out a goal you have for fitness/health before the end of the school year. Make sure it’s a SMART goal [Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound] and a fit teacher goal.

Sometimes the first step is the hardest. But, you’re doing it. You’re taking that step. And that step is further from the couch. Happy running!
